Maruti Ertiga Review
Maruti Suzuki India will soon be marking its debut in the MUV (multi utility vehicle) segment in the Indian auto market with the launch of its much awaited and much popular Maruti Ertiga. The new Maruti Ertiga will be first ever MUV model from the Maruti camp, a segment where it was absent so far. The car will be positioned in the price segment of Rs 7 to 10 lakh where it will be competing with the likes of Toyota Innova, Tata Aria and Mahindra Xylo.
In January 2010, a concept of Maruti Ertiga model was showcased at the Delhi International Auto Expo, named as Maruti RIII concept. The RIII concept proved a show stopper at the Maruti’s giant platform, where it received a staggering response from the car enthusiasts and car buyers. Now almost 2 years after this display, the Maruti RIII concept is ready as production version – Maruti Ertiga. The model is expected to be launched at the upcoming International auto expo in the National Capital in January 2012.
In recent months, there have been a number of incidents when, brand new Maruti Ertiga model caught testing on Indian roads, clearly indicating towards its early launch. With the launch of Ertiga model, Maruti Suzuki will be strengthening its position in the crossover segment, where it was absent so far. The biggest rival of the new Ertiga model will be Toyota Innova, which has been unchallenged in its segment. Innova has been a leader in its segment since its launch. And with the launch of Ertiga, Maruti will try to grab a major chunk of crossover segment sales in the Indian market, biting into the Innova’s market share.
However, dimensions of the new Maruti Ertiga model are expected to be a bit smaller as compared to Innova, as seen in the recent spy pictures of the car. Actually, the car will not be rolled—out in the Innova price segment. Rather, Maruti would be pricing the Ertiga a bit lower by adopting cost efficiency majors in its manufacturing. As we all know, Maruti has been a king in low cost production. The Ertiga model is expected to be about Rs 60,000 to 80,000 cheaper as compared to Toyota Innova.

It is expected to outpour a peak power 89 bhp along with a peak torque of 200 Nm.

Initially, the manual transmission will be the only option available; however, later on company may decide to launch it with an automatic transmission version, same as offered with the Maruti SX4.
